Jorge Luis Aneiros Alonso, national president of the Union of Cuban Historians, announced at the close of the National Commemorative Workshop: Duaba, a Necessary Landing, held in the Guantanamo municipality of Baracoa, that a book will be published with a selection of papers presented by researchers from the country who have attended the various editions of this scientific-methodological meeting for more than two decades.

Aneiros Alonso also explained that the new book will be printed under the UNHIC Editions label. The textbook contains research works by authors who delve into the events related to the landing of the “Honor” Schooner at Duba Beach and the role of outstanding figures in Cuban history.

Likewise, the UNHIC’s top official is considering holding the next History Congress in Guantánamo province, in recognition of the territory’s prominent position in carrying out research work on the 19th-century wars for independence, as well as the performance of two national workshops: Duaba: A Necessary Landing and Playita de Cajobabo, the latter to be held from April 10 to 14, 2025.

Cuba’s easternmost province has the privilege of treasuring many events that are recorded on the pages of the national history. Among the most important events are the arrivals on Cuban soil of the top leaders of the independence struggle against Spanish colonialism in April 1895.
