Guantanamo.- Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia thanked Cuba for its generous and supportive donation of 2,000 doses of yellow fever vaccines, the disease for which the Colombian nation is currently in a health emergency.

In a message posted on her social media account, X, the Minister of Foreign Affairs reproduced a letter signed by the Cuban ambassador to Colombia, Javier Caamaño, stating that the donation is 200 vials with 10 doses each, manufactured in Brazil.

On April 16, the Colombian government declared a health emergency throughout the country due to the yellow fever outbreak primarily affecting the department of Tolima, in the center-west of the country.

Since September of last year, according to the Ministry of Health, 85 people have been diagnosed with the disease, 38 of whom have died in Tolima, Huila, Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo, Caldas, Meta, Vaupés, Guaviare, and Caquetá.

Due to this situation, President Gustavo Petro directed the health system to guarantee immunization of the entire population against the virus.

The yellow fever vaccine is free in Colombia, is available at locations throughout the country, and is offered regardless of health system affiliation, nationality, or immigration status.
