Guantánamo.- Guantánamo reached 100 percent filing rate for the Personal Income Tax Return Campaign, which began on January 6 and concluded on April 30.

More than 11,000 self-employed workers, artists, social communicators, and designers, as well as more than 11,000 taxpayers from the agricultural sector, fulfilled this tax obligation, consolidating the culture and tax commitment in the province.

Pilar Rivera Mallet, head of the Taxpayer Assistance Department at the National Tax Administration Office (ONAT) in the province, recognized the willingness of taxpayers to comply with their tax obligations, and also the institutions and sectors that support the process and made it possible to achieve the goal set for this year, when ONAT celebrates the 30th anniversary of its creation.

He specified that 60 percent of Guantanamo taxpayers benefited from the 5 percent early payment bonus, meaning those who filed their tax returns and paid before February 28, and 3 percent for those who paid electronically throughout the campaign.

This year, under the slogan “Mark your value, contribute to the common good,” taxpayers benefited from a new progressive scale for calculating personal income tax. The minimum exemption of 39,120 pesos was maintained; however, the ranges and amounts subject to tax were adjusted, allowing for a more equitable distribution of the tax burden.

With the tax return campaign concluded, the ONAT is immersed in the collection of non-taxable taxes, which is running at more than 70 percent in the province; Also taxes on land transport, known as the payment of the plate, and on the ownership and possession of vessels, the latter closing on September 30.
