Guantanamo.- Cuban José Ramón Pelier won on Sunday the gold medal in the 5,000-meter single-seater (C-1) at the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Szeged, Hungary.
According to the International Canoe and Kayak Federation website www.caneicf.com, Pelier, from Baracoa, who had placed third (twelfth overall) in the B final of the C-1,000-meter event, won Cuba’s only medal in the Hungarian competition.
Pelier, who was first (tenth overall) in the B final of the C-1,000-meter event at the Paris 2025 multi-sport event, crossed the finish line this Sunday with a time of 23:20.97, ahead of Spaniard Jaime Duro (23:37.91) and local Adolf Balasz (24:04.94).
