Guantánamo.- As part of strategies promoting environmental and socioeconomic development, several entities in the province of Guantánamo are embracing the principles of the Circular Economy, given the global need to leverage available resources and re-use waste from various activities.
One example is the system for recovering used oils from hazardous waste, which is then used to produce preservative greases for the operation of machinery in the country’s sugar mills and also for producing exportable alcohol.
For its part, the Juan Marinello Printing Office in Guantánamo stands out for its implementation of a virtually closed-loop waste treatment system, which is used in alternative production processes that generate income for the center.
Another company responding to this challenge is Agroforestal y Coco, a company based in Baracoa, which re-uses a closed-loop waste management system as part of its productive activity, from processing to industrial operations.
Facing the imperative to replace imports of raw materials and inputs, several organizations in Guantánamo make efficient use of the waste from their activities, which contributes to reducing polluting substances in the environment.
