Guantanamo.- Cuba’s easternmost province (Guantánamo) closed out its participation in the 36th edition of the National Cuban Radio Festival with an exceptional performance, consolidating its position as one of the most awarded radio station in the competition.

During the awards ceremony in Camagüey, the Guantanamo delegation received recognition in multiple categories, including the Grand Prize for News Programs and other awards reflecting its creative and journalistic excellence.

The radio news program Punto Final Directed by Leonardo Téllez Navarro, produced by journalist Dianelbis Delfino, sound producer Alberto Baró, and announcer Lisset Frómeta, received the highest award in its category, standing out for its informative accuracy and relevance to its audience.

The award for the best radio music show was for the program Changüí Vive, produced by Edy Odalis González Fernández. The program celebrated the tradition of changüí, a native genre of Guantánamo, and was recognized for its contribution to the dissemination of Cuban musical culture.

Guantanámo also received individual recognition in the presenter and scriptwriting categories, with prominent Baracoa natives Odalys Borges Reyes and Siraida Muguercia Terrero winning awards in the female presenter and non-dramatized scriptwriting categories for the play Danza del oficio (Dance Trade).

Yusneikis Urgellés Martínez also won awards for Recording for El reloj de agua (The Water Clock).

In the Science, Technology, and Environment category, Hablemos del El reloj de agua (Let’s Talk about the Water Clock) by Martha Luz Urgellés Martínez was recognized for its educational content on local water resources. UNEAC Radio Joint Production Award

Esencias: El Primado Mayor, by Rosa Orlides Cardoza Bartutis, which highlights Baracoa’s cultural heritage.

At the festival’s closing ceremony, Radio Playita, a radio station from the municipality of Imías, also recognized for its performance in the participation program Sábado Gigante, directed by Leonardo Rivera Pérez, recognized for its dynamism and audience interaction.

Un tesoro en la cañada (A Treasure in the Ravine), by Mileidi Cuza Arcia, was recognized for her research on local heritage.

The Guantánamo delegation collected a total of 13 awards at the festival, including outstanding achievements by municipal radio stations such as La Voz del Toa, with five awards and Radio Playitas, with two, which acknowledged the province’s leadership in national radio.

The winners from Radio Guantánamo dedicated these awards to their audience and collective efforts, highlighting their commitment to quality and innovation. With these results, Cuba’s easternmost province, Guantánamo, reaffirms its place at the forefront of Cuban radio, combining tradition, creativity, and social relevance.
