Guantanamo.- With an official ceremony in Seoul, the capital of the Republic of Korea, the Cuban Embassy in that Asian nation was opened today.

According to the Cuban foreign ministry, Ariel Lorenzo Rodriguez, director of Asia and Oceania of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stressed at the opening ceremony the importance of the work of the respective diplomatic missions to Havana and Seoul, as a way for the development and strengthening of relations of friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit.

Claudio Monzon Baeza, Cuban ambassador to South Korea, stressed that there is potential for increasing bilateral ties in different spheres, mainly in the economic, trade, investment, cultural and sports exchanges.

Latin America and the Caribbean Director General of the South Korean Foreign Ministry, Lee Jooil, also participated in the ceremony, as well as representatives of different government institutions, sectors linked to Cuba and members of the Latin American Diplomatic Corps.

Diplomatic and consular relations between the two countries were established on February 14, 2024, through an exchange of diplomatic notes between their respective Permanent Representations to the United Nations in New York.

On January 17 this year, the Republic of Korea officially opened its embassy in Havana, on which occasion the two countries reaffirmed their common will to develop friendly and cooperative ties for mutual benefit.

Lee Ho-yul, the first South Korean Head of Mission to Cuba, presented on February 11 the Copies of Style as Ambassador designated by his country to the Cuban Government.
