Guantanamno.- In Guantánamo, special tributes were paid to Vilma Espín, the underground fighter from the Sierra, the founder of the Federation of Cuban Women, who inspires today’s generations.
The Heroine of Labor of the Republic of Cuba, PhD. Anselma Betancourt Pulsán, highlighted Vilma Espín’s example in a meeting held at the Flor del Caribe Day Care Center in Guantánamo.
She emphasized that her dedication to defending women’s rights, her dedication to the Revolution, and her loyalty to Fidel made her one of the most beloved daughters of the Cuban people.
She is remembered also when she began a new stage of struggle for the full equality of women, through the Federation of Cuban Women, which she led for 47 years, as well as the Communist Party, and as a Deputy of the National Assembly of People’s Power. On June 18, 2007, Vilma left us physically, but she continues to be the eternal President of the FMC.
