Guantanamo.- Cuban triathlete Alejandro Rodriguez Diez will be the only Cuban participating at the 2025 World Triathlon Cup Huatulco, scheduled for June 21 and 22 in the Mexican city.
The competition is part of the World Triathlon circuit and will be held in the Sprint category, which includes a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run.
Rodriguez Diez, currently training at Dominican Republic thanks to a scholarship from the International Federation, is in top shape after winning a silver medal at the recent Pan American Cup in Calima, Colombia, with a time of 1:54:12 hours.
With 37 international events, 14 podium finishes, and nine victories, the Cuban athlete is ranked 118th in the world and 21st in the Americas.
His experience supports him, and with each outing on the circuit, he seeks to establish himself among the continent’s strong names, Alejandro Puerto, president of the National Triathlon Federation, told the Cuban News Agency.
The Cuban will share the lineup at the Mexican event with top competitors such as Moya (Chile), Canadian Martin Sobey, Brazilian Antonio Bravo Neto, and young Mexican Osvaldo Darell Zúñiga, one of the new figures in regional triathlon.
Once his participation in Mexico concludes, Rodriguez Diez will return to the Dominican Republic, where he will remain until July 13 as part of his international development program with World Triathlon.
