Guantanamo.- Exhibiting the main industrial and exportable products of platform fishing, including the blue crab (Callinectes sapidus), is the primary objective of the Guantánamo Fishing Company (Pescaguan), which is participating for the third time in the Expo Caribe 2025 Trade Fair, held at the Heredia Convention Center in Santiago de Cuba.
The meat of the Callinectes sapidus is one of the most nutritious and healthy, rich in protein, low in cholesterol, and almost carbohydrate-free. Its meat is widely used as bait in octopus fishing.
According to the Cuban Collaborative Online Encyclopedia (EcuRed), the blue crab owes its name to the intense blue color of the males’ molars, while the females have an intense red color on their fingertips, which makes it easy to identify the sex.
Pescaguan reported on its institutional Facebook profile that the Baramar Branch of Baracoa is participating for the first time in this edition of ExpoCaribe, joining in cooperative production with the governing body of fishing activity in the province, and the Iván Rodríguez Livestock Company of the municipality of Niceto Pérez, which plans to enter into business with beef products.
At Cuba’s second largest trade fair, the Guantánamo Fishing Company is also presenting a book with recipes for its products and an advertising spot, which serve as a way for customers to learn about its products and encourage sales growth.
