Guantánamo.- With recognition from the Provincial Heritage Center in Guantánamo, the Cuban Workers’ Union (CTC), along with the Cultural Sector Union, and the Military Region in the territory, the Mariana Grajales Coello Revolution Plaza’s workers commemorated the 40th anniversary of the inauguration of this monumental sculpture complex by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz on July 26, 1985.

During this meeting, Alejandro Jardines Almarales, director of this cultural institution, recalled the founding moments of the Mariana Grajales Coello Revolution Plaza, a result of the of the project that brought together the architect Rómulo Fernández, the sculptor José Villa Saberón, the visual artist Ernesto García Peña, and the pianist, and composer Frank Fernández. He also referred to the historical significance of this center, which honors the Mambi legacy of the Motherland.

The commemorative ceremony took place in the Concert Hall, which is underground of this monumental sculpture complex. There, the Guantánamo Guitar Orchestra, the pianists René Méndez, the reciter Ángel Boffil, and the actor Eldy Luis Cuba Milán performed for the audience.

As a prelude to this cultural event, Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Guantánamo Provincial Committee of the PCC, met with specialists from the Mariana Grajales Coello Revolution Square and participated in the honoring of the center’s staff by the territory’s Military Region for its four decades of work.
