Guantanamo.- The mountainous municipality of Yateras stands out in the province of Guantánamo for the updating of its land use and urban planning plans through 2030.

One example is the community of “Arenal,” part of the Bernardo People’s Council, whose fundamental economic base contributes to the main sectors of the territory: agriculture and coffee cultivation.

In line with the priorities of the population center, the Land Use Plan allows for the distribution and prioritization of a medium- and short-term investment program aimed at solving the difficulties arising from the Turquino Plan in that locality.

The construction of a playground, a social center, and the repair of the warehouse and the main road in Arenal are also actions supported by financial, institutional, technological, and material resources, according to Guillermo San Miguel Pileta, director of the National Institute for Territorial and Urban Planning.

The Territorial and Urban Planning’s plan that is being implemented in the Yatera community also includes actions of the Vida program, which is aimed at eliminating micro-landfills, restoring green areas, reforesting and improving forests, and establishing a treatment system for the oxidation pond.

The director also pointed out that such actions require management and control measures identified in the micro-location plan that INOTU presented to the highest level of governance in the territory for this purpose.
