Guantánamo.- Guantánamo will celebrate the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer on September 16th with a dozen locations declared free of substances that deplete the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, under the motto: “Global cooperation to preserve life on Earth.”

To achieve this status, the Palmares, Transtur and Popular Camping centers replaced harmful gases that cause global warming in their refrigeration and climate control equipment with others that do not produce such damage, based on investments made for that purpose.

As part of the activities, ozone best practices courses were held to certify technicians and specialists to carry out this activity in various entities and the non-state sector, with international certification.

In Guantánamo, activities are promoted with different sectors and work groups, aimed at developing a culture of support for the protection of the ozone layer.

The UN General Assembly selected September 16 as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, coinciding with the signing of the Montreal Protocol in that city, the largest in the province of Quebec, Canada. Cuba has been a signatory to the Protocol since 1992, as well as to its Kigali Amendment, the capital of Rwanda.
