Guantánamo.- Nearly ten Guantánamo intellectuals will participate in the 26th National History Congress, which will take place in Las Tunas province from October 13 to 15. The event is dedicated to the 128th anniversary of the Necessary War of 1895 and the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz.
Composed of six accredited researchers and one fourth-year student majoring in Marxism and History, the Guantánamo delegation will present innovative presentations on projects to improve the methodology and teaching of history, as well as life and work of figures such as the pianist and composer Luis Martínez Grinán (Lili), and the young revolutionary Manuel Morilla Núñez, who was involved in revolutionary struggles from an early age, along with other members of his family.
The agrarian reform of the Cuban peasantry in the Baracoa region, and the relevance of Fidel Castro’s ethical thinking, are among the studies that will be presented by the members of the Guantánamo provincial branch of the UNHIC, who also serve as jurors on the admissions committee.
According to statements made by the meeting’s organizers to the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, the main venue of the National History Congress, sponsored by the National Union of Historians of Cuba, will be the University of Las Tunas, while other activities will take place at various institutions located in the city center and in the municipality of Puerto Padre.
