Guantánamo – The Provincial Defense Council (CDP) of Guantánamo emphasized the priority given to the allocation and distribution of essential food items provided by the state to the eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa.

According to Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Minister of Domestic Trade, the distribution of two pounds of rice per person, corresponding to the month of August, has been completed to all stores in the province, including remote areas of Niceto Pérez and El Salvador, where delivery was made by a helicopter.

In addition, the delivery of another shipment of rice is guaranteed following its recent unloading at the port of Santiago de Cuba. Regarding protein, one pound of chicken per capita is being sold to children under 13 years old, adults under 65, and pregnant women.

The distribution of powdered milk for infants and pregnant women is also being ensured in specific cycles.

The Meat Processing Company is collaborating in the distribution of ground meat for children from zero to six years old, as well as rice, peas, and oil from the World Food Programme for vulnerable individuals.

This initiative aims to guarantee food security in a context of challenges and the search for alternatives, prioritizing those most in need.
