Guantanamo.- Delegates of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Caimanera engaged in a thorough debate during an extraordinary meeting to analyze the Government Program aimed at correcting distortions and boosting the economy of the coastal town.
The meeting, chaired by Alis Azahares Torreblanca and Álvaro Enríquez Estévez, Governor of Guantánamo Province and First Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, respectively, was the highest collective expression of participatory democracy and direct participation of people in economic development.
During the debate, the Caimanera delegates proposed changes to the Government Program, including allowing port workers in Boquerón to operate coastal shipping services. The implementation of this program is expected to generate greater profits and strengthen production linkages between the port, transportation, and salt production.
From Salt mining sector, it was also suggested that salt produced by the Guantánamo subsidiary and its counterpart in Joa be included as an export commodity.
Furthermore, the delegates also stressed on joint local development projects with the Municipal University Center focused on the production of charcoal, bricks, and honey, which in turn strengthen the state and non-state enterprise system and contribute to the municipal development strategy.
