Guantánmo.- Seventeen families affected by Hurricane Melissa received on March 6 their new homes today, built from adapted shipping containers, in the community known as Cabaña Mariana, in the municipality of Guantánamo.

As part of a housing recovery plan, the program of container home provides a permanent solution for those who lost their homes after the hurricane in October 2025.

During the delivery of property, Osneidi Lobaina, a resident of house number seven, expressed her gratitude on behalf of the neighbors to the Cuban Revolution, State, and Government, noting that after a five-month wait, the possibility of moving into a new home with her son represents immense happiness and a gesture only possible in Cuba.

Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in the province, attended the inauguration and toured the new homes with other party and government officials. He highlights the significance of these deliveries in the current complex context.

The Party leader affirmed that these actions demonstrate the government’s and the Revolution’s commitment to the well-being of the people, by providing comfortable and dignified homes that restore hope to families, especially children.

The homes delivered have two bedrooms, a multi-purpose living room/kitchen, a bathroom, and a service patio, explained Marilín Céspedes Donatien, the municipal housing director. She also noted that these units are fully completed and in optimal condition, ready for immediate occupancy by the beneficiaries.
