Guantanamo.- The final sessions of the 22nd Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) will be held on June 26 and 27 via videoconference, reflecting the labor movement’s adaptation to the complex economic and energy landscape facing the country, according to Osnay Miguel Colina Rodríguez, president of the Organizing Committee for the major event.
Colina Rodríguez explained that this culminating stage of the Congress, which will be austere and streamlined, will connect delegates and guests from all Cuban provinces. He clarified that the organizational process will not begin on that date but will reach its final stage after a long period of discussions that began in January 2024.
“The Congress began a long time ago, and in essence, we have already completed it.” “It began in the union sections, the union bureaus, the municipal and provincial conferences, and also in the development of conferences of the 15 unions that make up the CTC and the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers (ANIR),” the leader pointed out.
He also detailed that the debates will focus on a strategic axis for the nation: the defense of the homeland. A fundamental part of the analysis will also be dedicated to how to boost national production, with an emphasis on food and energy transformation. Colina Rodríguez specified that they will delve into the architecture of the Cuban business system and the real participation of workers in decision-making.
The workers’ conclave will also thoroughly evaluate the situation of workers who, due to the intensification of the blockade and energy difficulties, have been forced to reorient their careers, adopt remote work, or are currently unemployed. In this context, the union leader called for the creation of comprehensive work brigades in the communities.
The 22nd Congress of the CTC (the Cuban Workers Fedetation) will gather the results of the massive consultation on the draft of the new Labor Code, in which more than two million workers participated. The President of the Organizing Committee confirmed that the current status of the bill will be shared with the delegates before its analysis in the National Assembly of People’s Power.
Likewise, the union forum will discuss the Government Program, whose goals are projected toward 2026. The leader described this process of collective construction as a genuine expression of the “working class in power.”
Colina Rodríguez concluded that, in the face of the collective punishment imposed by the United States government, the Congress stands as a milestone for establishing commitments and making workers the protagonists of substantial change in their workplaces and neighborhoods.
