Guantánamo.- Guantánamo marked the commencement of the 2026 summer season, under the slogan “Summer with My People,” through a series of dynamic artistic presentations and community events that enlivened multiple venues across the city.
The central José Martí Park was the main venue of the festivities, featuring performances by the Carpandilla Variety Circus Company, the Danza Libre troupe, Proyecto Loco, and the dance academy “Al Paso.” Complementing these were captivating musical renditions delivered by the El Salvador municipal concert band, setting an enthusiastic tone for the season.
The opening celebrations extended to the grounds of the Rubén López Sabariego House of Culture, where a lively Casino tournament took place alongside musical accompaniment from the group “Sabor y Ritmo.”
This event drew participation from instructors of the José Martí Brigade, community initiative members, amateur artists, and dancers from the Babul Folkloric Ballet, highlighting the integral role of collective cultural engagement in the region.
Literary and cinematic arts also featured prominently with the Provincial Center for Books and Literature hosting a mini book fair along Aguilera Street boulevard.
Attendees had access to titles from the “El Mar y la Montaña” publishing imprint and works available through Ateneo Asdrúbal López Bookstore.
Concurrently, the local Film Center premiered the biographical film “Michael,” followed by a concert by instrumentalist Víctor Tamayo Preval at Artex’s “La Guantanamera” Cultural Center underscoring the diversity of artistic expressions embraced during the kickoff.
Further festivities unfolded at the Elpidio Valdés Amusement Park, where Guantánamo creators presented offerings through the Carpandilla Circus Company and the Proyecto Artesaneando with Yeny initiative.
Community spaces hosted cultural promoters and specialists from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), providing activities such as face painting, artistic showcases, and sports demonstrations that engaged participants of all ages.
Finally, the historic 24 de Febrero Plaza became a hub for collaborative events organized by INDER and the Culture sector. The opening moment featured performances by amateur artists from the Rubén López Sabariego House of Culture, accompanied by traditional games and recreational activities led by sports professionals.
This inclusive program reflected the spirit of “Summer with My People,” fostering community cohesion through shared cultural and sporting experiences.
Through this multifaceted program, Guantánamo not only celebrated the arrival of the summer season but also reinforced its commitment to nurturing artistic talent, promoting active lifestyles, and strengthening social bonds within its vibrant communities.
