Guantánamo.- The payment schedule for August pensions, which began Tuesday at bank branches across Guantánamo, was reviewed by the province’s top political and government authorities during their regular meeting on the socioeconomic situation.
During a videoconference with officials from Guantánamo’s 10 municipalities, authorities reported that Banco de Crédito y Comercio (Bandec) is working to contract new businesses as authorized financial agents. These businesses would make cash payments to retirees at their own establishments.
In response to the long lines retirees face when collecting their monthly pensions, Provincial Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca urged local entrepreneurs to take on this social responsibility.
Although participation is voluntary, Bandec’s Guantánamo branch said businesses that join the initiative will receive several benefits, including a financial bonus for each transaction and priority processing for services requested at bank branches.
Private businesses will also have access to banking mechanisms designed to expedite loan applications. These applications will be assessed based on the businesses’ effectiveness in paying retirees.
