Guantanamo.- A team from the Guantánamo Provincial Meteorological Center has developed a robust methodology for digitizing and ensuring the quality of historical atmospheric records.

This initiative aims to create a comprehensive database that will facilitate the study of climate variability and change, tailored to the operational needs of the region’s meteorological stations.

Led by MsC. Yurielky Duran Díaz and PhD. Arisleidys Peña de la Cruz, the project integrates manual digitization with metadata management to produce a high-quality spatial database covering the period from 1996 to 2024.

This resource is essential for local climate analysis, Geographic Information Systems, and sophisticated statistical evaluations.

The research, conducted across various meteorological stations in Guantánamo and its surrounding areas, establishes a scientific foundation for enhancing climate resilience and adaptive management in the region’s vulnerable ecosystems.

The findings are detailed in the 2026 quarterly edition of the digital journal Hombre, Ciencia y Tecnología, published by the Knowledge and Technology Management Company (GECYT) in Guantánamo.
