Of a total of 462 applications, 288 new micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and Non-Agricultural Cooperatives (CNA) have been approved in the Guantanamo Province since the process of improving the new economic actors that began in September 2021.
Yunier Oliva Batista, provincial director of Economy and Planning, explained to Venceremos that of the total approved, 234 are in operation to date, of which two are state-owned enterprise, a non-agricultural production cooperative, and the rest are private.
Of the existing ones, most provide services related to strategic areas of the province, especially gastronomy and accommodation, followed by those dedicated to construction, industrial and food production, and other activities.
Oliva Batista explained that in terms of the geographical distribution of these entities, there is representation in all the municipalities with the highest concentrations in Guantanamo, where more than 60 percent reside, in addition to Baracoa, Imías and San Antonio del Sur.
The manager recalled that the calls for the creation of MSMEs are based on all legal economic activities approved in the country, with the aim of using local potential in the territorial economic framework.
