A solidarity brigade with Cuba, headed by His Excellency Maurice George Goodwin, Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda, visited the coastal municipality of Caimanera, where he showed great interest in learning about the social, cultural and economic characteristics of that territory bordering with the illegal United States naval base located in Guantanamo Bay.
Officials from the territorial branch of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) accompanied the diplomat and his entourage, who advocated strengthening the ties of friendship between that Caribbean country and the country’s easternmost province.
George Goodwin ratified his decision to continue supporting Cuba in the demand for the end of the criminal Yankee economic, commercial and financial blockade, achieving its withdrawal from the unfair list of countries that sponsor terrorism and promised to return to Caimanera another time for a more specific agenda.
Antigua and Barbuda is an independent country of the English-speaking Commonwealth, which includes those two islands and other smaller ones known for their reef-lined beaches, rainforests, and resorts.
Currently, the Caribbean country maintains extensive technical collaboration and exchanges in the framework of educational and health programs with the largest of the Antilles.
This year the two governments celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the beginning of Cuban medical assistance in the neighboring country, strengthened in the midst of the struggle against Covid-19 pandemic.
Cuba annually offers scholarships to young people from that nation to study medicine, nursing and other careers related to health.
