The first days of the 19th issue of the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games were marked by discreet performances for the Guantanamo representatives, although there are some medal options for the coming days.

This Saturday morning the rower Yariulvis Cobas in the company of Milena Venegas finished second in the Women’s double sculls with 7: 37:71 to qualify for the A final of the event.

Later, the Cuban boat with eight helmsmen, which also includes both girls along with Ana Jiménez, Natalie Morales, Andrey Barnet, Leduar Suárez, Roberto Paz, Francisco Romero and Juan C. González, won the qualifying round with 6:10.47, and won the right to discuss a medal.

In swimming, Elisbet Gámez from Baracoa and her teammates Lorena González, Andrea Becali and Laurent Estrada reissued the national record in the 4×100 m freestyle relay, with 3: 44.97.

With this result they took fifth place behind Canada, United States, Brazil and Mexico.

Hours earlier, in the second heat, the Cuban girls finished third with 3:46.63.

This Sunday Elisbet finished third with 2:01.90 in the fourth heat of the 200 m freestyle, she was able to access the final, and however, she finished last with a record of 2:01.78.

In boxing, the Olympic medalist Arlen López (80 kg) won by unanimous vote in the round against the Ecuadorian Abel Mina.

In artistic gymnastics, the Cuban representatives Diorges Escobar, Pablo Pozo (GTM), Alejandro de la Cruz, Yohendry Villaverde and José Carlos Escandón were sixth with 230,228 points.

In weightlifting, Yeniuska Mirabal, also from Guantanamo, was fourth with a total of 238 kg. She was surpassed on the second move by American Meredith Alwine, who won one more point in the total.
