The rains of recent days favor the current Cold Sowing Season and also generate peaks of ripening in the province’s coffee plantations, where growers are currently involved in the harvest.
Producers are taking advantage of the moisture in the soil, to accelerate the planting of various crops to ensure supply to the market network and increase the results of a harvest that in 2022 fall considerably short of current needs.
According to official information, one of the main strategies prioritizes short-cycle crops such as corn and squash, capable of providing short-term food, as well as areas that allow self-sufficiency of basic products in the Guantanamo diet, in which bean stands out.
In all the municipalities of the province, productive activities were organized to promote this season. In San Antonio del Sur, an important productive garden, the commitment is to produce in 2,700 hectares of land, aimed, above all, at the growing demand for food and the food sovereignty program.
