Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel called on the people to closely follow the suggestions by the World Health Organization (WHO) amidst the increase of cases of COVID-19 and other acute respiratory conditions around the world.

During a usual meeting with members of the Cuban scientific and medical community, the head of state urged to be appropriately prepared to face such threats, and keep studying the effects of COVID-19 in those citizens who suffered from the disease under the pandemic which affected over one million Cubans, Granma newspaper reported.

At the end of the meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, deputy Health Minister, doctor Carilda Pena Garcia, told reporters that although Cuba has not witnessed the surge of COVID-19 and other acute respiratory diseases taking place in different parts of the world, it does not mean lowering the guard or be unprepared.
