The Guantanamo swimmer Elisbet Gamez had a result far from what was expected in her first performance in the swimming tournament of the World Aquatic Sports Championship in Doha, Qatar, by finishing 25th in the 400 meters freestyle.
The digital site of the sports publication JIT highlighted that Elisbet stopped the clocks in 4:19.91 minutes, distant from her best mark and national record of 4:13.05 minutes achieved at the world cup in the Qatari city in 2019.
In this regard, coach Luisa Maria Mojarrieta told JIT that “Elisbet showed some technical problems on her arrival here, especially in the position of the body. She is not completely linear in the direction of movement.
She also referred to her breathing, since raising her head higher than normal prevents her from recovering in time and her body from moving forward, in other words, she was slowed down in the water.
Mojarrieta added that from a strategic point of view, she did her first 50 meters in 29.88 seconds, which is not a bad pace, but not the best either. Then he could not maintain the proper partial rhythm, which was between 32.23 and 33.50 in the seventh, and closed with 32.47.
“I hope she outperforms in the 100 and 200, her best events, because in 400 she has always had some instability,” the coach stated.
Elisbet, 27 years old, is Cuba’s leading athlete and is attending her sixth world competition. She will compete again on Tuesday in the 200 meters, the distance in which she has shown her most outstanding results, while on Thursday she will conclude with the 100 meters.
