Cuba announced the 12 names of its men’s basketball team for the FIBA AmeriCup 2025 qualifiers—including its leader Jasiel Rivero, who will play this season for the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa.

According to head coach Onel Planas Castillo, Team Cuba will be in Pool D along with U.S.A., Puerto Rico and Bahamas, whom they will face twice under a “home-and-away” format during three windows scheduled to be held in February and November 2024 and then in February 2025. “We know that we are in a difficult pool, but our goal is to strive for one of the three places [in AmeriCup 2025],” he said.

On February 22, Cuba will have its first game as visitors against U.S.A. and then will host the Americans in Havana on the 25th.

The FIBA 2025 tournament will be held at the Polideportivo Alexis Argüello in Managua, Nicaragua on August 23-31, 2025.
