Guantanamo Culture Week starts with a parade along Pedro A. Perez Street

The 45th edition of the Guantanamo Culture Week, an event that shows the territory’s native cultural traditions, will take place from February 18 to 24, dedicated to the birth anniversary of the Guantanamo poet, writer and painter Regino Eladio Boti and the restart of the fight for independence.

Also, it is dedicated to the centenary of the birth anniversary of Antonia Luisa Cabal, Tootsie, to the 80th birthday of the writer Ana Luz García and to the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Art Instructors Program and the José Martí Brigade.

The program of activities includes the traditional inaugural parade and the political-cultural event in tribute to the uprising in La Confianza Farm. Likewise, the literary crusade Hacia la Aldea (Towards the Village), a workshop on the San Joaquín Festival and the proposal of a meeting of conga bands all along the main streets of the Guantánamo City will be also developed.

In this cultural event stands out the Science, Art and Sports Festival, which will show the results of robotics, technology and computing in the territory, and the announcements for the meeting of Choirs and Songs, the children’s sing and dance festival “A la Rueda Rueda”, with students of artistic education and the audiovisual contest “Memory from my cell phone”, aimed at encouraging the protection of historical heritage.

These days, in addition, the outstanding work of social actors in the cultural work of Guantanamo will be recognized, from the work with the movement of amateur and professional artists and community and cultural expressions of the province. The Guantanamo Culture Week has been, since 1983, one of the most important sociocultural events in the territory, and invites us to celebrate the heritage, material and cultural identity of the town.
