The Guantanamo-born Lázaro Martínez heads the list of triple jumpers who will represent Cuba in the World Indoor Athletics Championships, scheduled for March 1 to 3 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to Jit, the defending champion will be accompanied by Cristian Nápoles, Leyanis Pérez and Liadagmis Povea, all aspirating to get on the podium.

The two men, silver and bronze medalists in the Budapest 2023 universal event, appear among the candidates for awards, despite not having exceeded 17 meters in their first forays into the current winter tour.

Both Leyanis, bronze medalist in the Hungarian capital, and Povea, were successful in their winter forays with good marks. The first leads the season ranking with a jump of 14.86 meters.

The organizers of the 2024 Glasgow event expect the attendance of more than 700 contestants from 130 countries, seeking medals in 26 events, distributed equally between each sex. Cuba has 19 gold medals in competitions of this type, 17 silver and 15 bronze.
