Ritmo, colorido y mucho más en Semana de la Cultura Guantanamera A colorful parade with representations of native artistic manifestations of this region began the Guantanamera Culture Week, an event that will take place until the coming February 24th.
This 45th edition is dedicated to the 146th birth anniversary of the distinguished Guantanamo poet Regino Eladio Boti, the 129th anniversary of the La Confianza uprising, as well as the centenary of the teacher of several generations of musicians Antonia Luisa Cabal (Tusy), the 80th birthday of the writer Ana Luz García Calzada and two decades of the José Martí Art Instructors Brigade (BJM) program.

 

On the opening day, the Municipal Heritage Award was given to maestro Ernesto Llewellyn de La Hera, director of the Babul Folkloric Ballet Company, for his work in the defense and preservation of Afro-Caribbean values and culture.

Art instructors from the BJM and the local House of Culture were also recognized for their meritorious performance in teaching art and in favor of identity values.

The Guantanamo Culture Week comes this year with lots of novelties such as the literary crusade and the artistic tour to outskirts neighborhoods and in vulnerable conditions to promote the enjoyment to different artistic-cultural manifestations by people of all ages.

Likewise, conferences and panels takes place about the life and work of the Guantanamo poet Regino Eladio Boti, the music teacher Antonia Luisa Cabal and the writer Ana Luz García Calzada, in addition to the creation 2 decades ago of the Brigade of Art Instructors, known as the Doctors of the soul.
