Esteban Lazo, president of the National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba, met with William Ruto, head of state of that East African country, upon his arrival in Kenya.

According to a message posted on X by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Lazo’s mission is to take urgent steps in search for Kenya’s cooperation to clarification about Cuban doctors Assel Herrera Correa and Landy Rodriguez Hernandez, kidnapped in that country on April 12, 2019.

Lazo traveled to Kenya as Cuba’s High Level Special Envoy, following recent and hitherto unconfirmed reports about the possible death of both doctors due to a U.S. air strike in the town of Dilib (Somalia).

On Wednesday, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed that uncovering the fate of the two doctors is his government’s top priority and pointed out that Cuba will not rest until their current status is confirmed.
