The fiction feature and short films Bajo la corteza (Under the Thick Skin) and Los niños de Bernarda (Bernarda’s Children), both directed by Guantanamo filmmakers, are currently being filmed in different locations in the Guantánamo Province , under the close gaze of the local public, who accompanies and even actively participates in the film shooting.
Bajo la corteza, second feature film by the renowned Guantanamo director and screenwriter Daniel Ross Diéguez, tells the story of a street actor who, through his art, seeks to escape the oppression of loneliness and depression, finding in his imagination and in the cultural heritage of his land, a refuge and a purpose.
The leading role is performed by the actor Juan González Fiffe, the leader of Teatro Andante, from Granma, and in the supporting roles: the visual artist Ramón Moya Hernández; the actors Alexis Ayala Wilson, director of the comedy group Komotú, and Fermín Francel Figueredo Suárez, member of Teatro de la Totalidad; the journalist and writer Reinaldo Cedeño Pineda, from Santiago de Cuba; the psychiatrist and writer Regino Rodríguez Boti and the model Ana Zuliam Rodríguez Sánchez.
The assintant team is made up of specialists from Holguín (Gerardo Perdomo González and Oniel Calzadilla Proenza); Santiago de Cuba (Moisés Palomo Leyva) and Guantánamo. This new production has chosen Guantanamo City, Baracoa and Imías locations to shoot the scenes.
For its part, Los hijos de Bernarda is an audiovisual adaptation of the choreography of the same name, by maestro Elio Orestes Reyna, director of the Danza Libre Company, which tells the story of Bernarda, mother of three young men, who after knowing about the Adelio’s homosexual preference, the youngest son, she rejects him, leading her youngest son to attempt on his life. This traumatic situación makes Bernarda and her siblings to recognize her mistake and love finally prevails between the four of them.
Bernarda’s children is produced thanks to the El Reino de este Mundo Creation Award, granted by the Hermanos Saíz Association, and counted on the Danza Libre dancers in the leading roles and the assistance of the support staff of this company, under the direction of Anderlay Guerra, the original soundtrack by Jeafrei Lewis Ortiz, and the staff and specialists from the Alabao Production Company.
