The heavy rains of the last 24 hours in Baracoa, as a result of the combination of a migratory anticyclone and the cold front that has been affecting the eastern region since the beginning of the week, caused heavy floods due to the swelling of rivers in the second most important municipality of the province of Guantánamo.

Since the early hours of April 30, the Baracoa Municipality, in Guantamo Province has been under an intense rainfall regime as result of low pressure system dragged by an anticyclone that causes instability along with diurnal heating and high humidity at low levels of the atmosphere.

The  Baracoa’s municipal rain pluviometer network  in the  registers 453 milliliters of precipitation in 3 days, of which 244.7 mm were reported in the Jamal neighborhood, and 164, in Cayoguín.

Local authorities visited vulnerable communities, paying special attention to the protection of residents. The weather situation may be persistent during the next few hours.
