Guantanamo.- Guantanamo stands out for the work of the protected areas system, as part of the provincial environmental strategy that has among its priorities preserving the environment, in favor of protecting life and the planet, the common home of all humanity.

The territory has protected areas with a management plan that allows a satisfactory state of conservation and actions carried out in other areas, which, although they are not included in that system, they are distinguished by their biodiversity, beauty of the landscapes, among others values.

Likewise, the work of environmentalists stands out with the completion of Hazard, Vulnerabilities and Risk Studies (PVR), which assess the impact of various phenomena and whose results are offered at the government level to adopt the pertinent measures aimed at preventing technological accidents and other situations.

From these investigations, it was known that the municipalities of Guantánamo, Baracoa and El Salvador are the most likely to suffer damage to the housing stock if hurricanes occur, valuable information to adopt the pertinent measures in that case.

As part of the environmental strategy, it also distinguishes the Guantánamo Bay decontamination program, whose actions involve the management of wastewater and the implementation of the management system in enterprises that are major producers of substances harmful to the environment.
