A representation of workers from the CMKS provincial radio station , in Guantánamo, arrived on May 17, the Cuban Farmer’s Day, to the Niceto Pérez Credit and Services
Cooperative (CSS, in Spanish abbreviation), in the Yateras municipality, where they shared with outstanding producers in this cooperative that has been national vanguard for eight consecutive years.
The CSS Niceto Pérez, with around 70 producers are dedicated to the production of coffee, various crops and livestock. In the last coffee harvest, the farmers exceeded their estimated plan by 30%, as Maurilio Roseaux, president of the cooperative, said.
The leader explained that the CSS maintains compliance with the plans for the production and sale of grains, vegetables and fruits to become self-sufficiency in food aimed at 513 consumers, the demand of the economy in the municipality and the participation of the Fair in the Guantánamo City, held every Sunday.
However, the CSS still does not satisfy the demand for 5 kg of protein by consumers, it just supplies 2.5 kg, 50%, of protein.
During the activity the changüí group Severino y su son, the pioneers of the Antonio Maceo Grajales primary school, the art instructors, and el Cacique y su son band, showed the mist rooted traditions of the region.
The Guantanamo radio broadcasters, including the journalists and the production team of the programs Alborada and De Extremo a Extremo, also exchanged with residents of the community and learned about the daily life of this mountain population.
