A modern biofactory for the vitroplants production was officially inaugurated this Thursday at the Development and Innovation Unit of Guantanamo University(UG), in the presence of Reynaldo Velazquez Zaldivar, vice minister of Higher Education, and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, provincial governor.
The factory will cover the need for seeds in the eastern territory and will facilitate the reproduction of plants on a larger scale and faster, to meet the peasants agricultural needs and other agricultural production forms.
The opening ceremony was also attended by Doctor in Sciences Osiris Aranda Creagh, rector of the UG, and Luis Antonio Barranco Oliveras, his counterpart at the Marta Abreu de Las Villas Central University (UCLV), the institution that advises the scientific center, where it was learned that FIAT-O4 plantain embryos are already being processed and will be ready to be planted next December.
During the meeting, Barranco Olivera stated that the biofactory is the result of joint work between both universities in the preparation of human resources, while he ratified the commitment to continue working together to promote other actions supported by the signing of a collaboration agreement between the two higher education centers.
