The incorporation of the Degree in Social Work is among the novelties of the next academic year at the Guantanamo University as part of the current process of improvement of higher education.
At present, three training programs are being developed: the Medium Technician in Health, Education and the Higher Technician in Social Work; the latter is the immediate antecedent for the elaboration of the “E” curriculum of this career.
The Ministry of Higher Education approves the design of the “E” study plans with the purpose of increasing the quality of undergraduate training in careers with a broad profile in order to redirect them towards the solution of society’s problems in line with the Constitution and the Family Code recently approved in the country.
The spheres of action of the professional trained in this specialty will be in the constituencies, popular councils, municipal governments, Labor and Social Security Directorates, health centers, the education system and Directorates of the Ministry of the Interior.
These professionals will be inserted, fundamentally at the local level with the purpose of promoting social transformation based on the development of participative processes in which the citizens become subjects of change and protagonists of their circumstances in the construction of a socialist society.
This first year the Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work will only begin at the Guantanamo University, in the modality of course by meeting, although the corresponding studies are already being carried out for the incorporation of this new career in the existing university centers throughout Guantanamo province .
