Guantánamo – The pediatric services and the intensive care unit of the Pedro Agustín Pérez Children’s Hospital in Guantánamo stand out within the teaching hospital categorization of this kind of institution in the country, which is celebrating 107 years since its founding.

Dr. Leonel Brugal Pérez, the hospital’s director, emphasized that the results achieved are the fruit of the effort and dedication of the medical and paramedical staff, who daily face limitations with resources, supplies, and advanced technology with professionalism and commitment.

Founded on November 6, 1918, the Pedro Agustín Pérez Pediatric Hospital began with just four doctors and five nurses to serve the entire population of the province. Today, more than a thousand professionals make up its staff, committed to the comprehensive care and well-being of the youngest members of the community.

The institution holds the second level of national accreditation for teaching hospitals, and since its transformation into a pediatric hospital in 1981. It has consolidated its healthcare, research, and training mission, based on humanism and professional dedication.

This initiative aims to guarantee food security in a context of challenges and the search for alternatives, prioritizing those most in need.
