supply of water to the population of the Maisí MunicipalityThe supply of water to the population of the Maisí Municipality, the most affected by the drought in the Guantanamo Province, with 80 percent of scarce water resources, is supported with half a dozen tanker trucks that are added to those existing in the territory, while investments are projected to improve the distribution of vital liquid.

Lexis Suárez Ramírez, director of the Provincial Aqueduct and Sewerage Enterprise, explained that these means of transport will have guaranteed fuel in their operations to support populations, especially in La Máquina, the chieftown in Maisí Municipality.

The investments plan to link Arroyón with the Ovando water source, which is currently very depressed and will receive a little more than eight liters of water per second from the former to improve distribution to La Máquina.

Suárez Ramírez specified that the actions to improve the hydraulic service to Maisí include installation of 2.5 kilometers of 200-millimeter pipes to replace half of the conductor of the La Vieja aqueduct, affected by large leaks that do not allow efficient use that supply source.

As part of the strategy, the work of the inspectors and the rest of the authorities of the entity is increased to detect violations in the service, especially managing of pipes and  valves, which complicate operations in the midst of the deficit.

To date, a dozen of these violations have been identified and offenders have been fined up to 200 pesos.
