The Provincial Branch of the Cuban Historian Association (UNHIC) in Guantanamo takes part in activities to commemorate the Cuban Historians Day, which began nationwide on June 17, on the 118th anniversary of the death of Generalissimo Máximo Gómez and runs until July 31, the day of the death of Eusebio Leal Spengler, three years ago.
Marilis de Dios Noris, first vice president of the UNHIC, informed that the central activity of the event will take place on July 1 at ten in the morning at the “Manuel García González” House of History, where nine members of the organization will receive the national and provincial recognition diplomas.
The UNHIC in the territory will also recognize the four most outstanding grassroots sections, out of 24 in total, which during the year 2022 to the date of 2023 have developed a stable and upgrading work in the research work of local historiography and the promotion of knowledge of history, the master’s degree in science stands out.
The program of activities for the Guantanamo historians, accompanied by the Provincial Center for Books and Literature, includes a panel on the life and work of Luis Morlote, a meeting of Guantanamo authors and their work, as well as a discussion on the presence and speech of Fidel Castro in the acts for July 26 in Guantanamo, regarding the commemoration of the anniversary of the attacks on the barracks in Bayamo and Santiago de Cuba.
These activities take place in schools, workplaces and various public spaces such as the José Martí and Independiente parks, in the cities of Guantanamo and Baracoa, respectively.
The provincial branch of the UNHIC will conclude the event on the Cuban Historian Day, on July 31st in the city of Baracoa, where they foreseen various gatherings and exchange of experiences, among them, the discussion on the presence of Fidel Castro in the Cuban First Villa, by the MSC. Amado San Miguel, the winner of the UNHIC Scholarship 2022.
