The Meeting of Agroforestry Women held in Guantanamo as part of the 7th edition of the Chocolate con Café Festival, became a tribute to those who, through female empowerment, invest efforts and knowledge to increase production in various agricultural areas.

During the event called Aroma de mujer (Scent of a Woman), the essential role of women who in rural areas are responsible for the cultivation of coffee, cocoa, vegetables, grains and other crops was recognized, amidst the lack of fertilizers, means and despite of the impact of climate change.

The Agroforestry Development Project known as Prodecafé, which sponsored the event, is committed to strengthening the work and living conditions of peasant families, in favor of better returns in this sector.

Guantanamo is one of the territories in Eastern Cuba that are included in this project financed by the International Fund for Agricultural Development, which benefits 40 coffee and cocoa cooperatives in this province, mostly, with tool modules and other means, in addition of training its associates in different topics such as gender equity and agrotechnics.
