In the recent ordinary session of the Caimanera People’s Power Assembly, the highest representatives analyzed, among other
topics, the situation of the food program, an issue that demands more pro-activity from its managers, associated with the Miguel
Antonio Caballero Credit and Services Cooperative (CCS), as well as the people in general.
A delegates´ concern was the synchronization of prices around agricultural products, something that would be of great benefit to
Caimanera residents if it comes to achieving local, sovereign and nutritional food production.
Ramón Toirac, deputy director of agriculture in the municipality, said to the plenary session that Caimanera currently has 65 hectares
planted, a result that, unlike other years, it was achieved from the stateization of lands to be planted; however there are still
insufficiencies such as water supply, a fundamental element for both agriculture and the raising of cattle, sheep and goats.
Saimara Llamaré Galano President of the highest local government body, insisted on increasing results in the only productive way
(CCS), as well as from the Community Councils, with the aim of achieving self-supply for each demarcation.
Work is being done in Caimanera agriculture, but there is still much to do. The guide can be found in the 63 measures to enhance food
production, but its implementation requires as much effort on the part of the farmers as preparation and control of managers and all
the entities involved in guaranteeing that Guantanamo and Cuban agriculture resembles that needed by the population and the
country’s economy.
