Paisaje cubano, (Cuban Landscape), a work of artist Raúl Tissert Tamayo, won the main award at the José Vázquez Pubillones Salon-Contest in its 23rd issue, convened by the Visual Arts Council in Guantanamo to stimulate contemporary visual creation and experimentation.
Tissert Tamayo won the prize for achieving an adequate balance between the landscape theme, the technique and the evident mastery of formal and conceptual elements expressed in the work, which stood out among the pieces in competition, by authors such as Yuneidis Matos Matos, Adrián García Falcón
, Virgen María Pérez, Alexei Osorio Blet, Eyder Garbey Rodríguez, Eduardo Enrique Núñez Pérez, Eliardo del Toro Brines and Rudens Local Guerra.
The photographic works by the young visual artist Olaph Johe Quiala Rodríguez was recognized. He was winner of the first mention; the abstract and figurative piece Espacio Reducido, by Axel Navarro Terrero, and Todo es nada, by Geidys Fernández Rojas.
In the words dedicated to the Hall, Maestro Rogelio Martínez Bajo recognized the value of the space which, since 1999, has paid tribute to the great local painter and journalist Vázquez Pubillones and enables Guantanamo artists who have won this competition to participate in the National Hall of Art.
