Guantánamo – The award ceremony of the wooden Quixote Award– symbol of the Guantánamo-Baracoa Theater Crusade – awarded to the Provincial Committee of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS), the José Martí Instructors Brigade, and the Center of Houses of Culture, marked the welcome for the artists who participated in the thirty-sixth edition of this journey through more than one hundred mountain communities.

At the ceremony, Adolfo Díaz Quevedo, provincial instructor and methodologist of visual arts, was also awarded for his contributions to the creative workshops in this field during the event, which this year was dedicated to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the 173rd birth anniversary of National Hero José Martí.

Likewise, the theater groups Guiñol Guantánamo, La Barca, and Carpandilla were recognized for fully assuming the Guantánamo-Baracoa Theater Crusade program, following its resumption on February 24th with a new schedule and itinerary through mountainous regions, without the participation of national or international groups during its second phase.

They also received a letter of recognition from the Provincial Council of Performing Arts, as well as the technical and support staff, specialists, and drivers, whose dedication and commitment made the 36th edition of the Theater Crusade possible.

PhD. Migdalia Tamayo Téllez, First Vice President of the Provincial Committee of the UNEAC, welcomed the participants of this artistic journey back to the city, praising the value of maintaining a project like the Theater Crusade, even under challenging circumstances, for its sociocultural and humanistic impact.

During the event, Ury Rodríguez Urgellés, president of the UNEAC Provincial Committee and director of the La Barca group, also highlighted the participation of Lianyis Martínez Sánchez, a fourth-year student from Guantánamo at the Acting Academy of the Manuel Muñoz Cedeño Professional School of Art in Bayamo, in this journey. She joined the aforementioned group, an experience that served as her graduation project.

The Babul Folkloric Ballet, with its choreographic performances, was in charge of the welcoming ceremony for the participants. The initial reception took place in José Martí Park, but due to rain, it was moved indoors to the Ismaelillo Children’s Play Center in this eastern city.
