Guantánamo.- Buffalo farming in Guantánamo maintained a growing rate last year in the province, with both the number of farms and animals increasing.
According to reports from Jorge Luis Mendoza Viñales, sub-delegate for Animal Affairs at the Agriculture Delegation, six new livestock units were created in 2025: four in the municipality of Niceto Pérez, one in Manuel Tames, and one in San Antonio del Sur.
The livestock population increased by 205 head of cattle compared to the previous year, now totaling 1,781.
The Guantanamo Province is investing in the buffalo livestock development program. The plans are underway to expand this year with five new centers: three in Niceto Pérez, and one each in Manuel Tames and Maisí.
Maisí will have the first buffalo herd in this easternmost municipality.
