Guantanamo.- Afer the victory of Caciques team (formerly Sepsa) over Vitilla are the most striking aspects of the veterans’ softball tournament held in memory of former player Esmeraldo Fiss and in celebration of May Day, International Workers’ Day.
The Caciques, after two initial losses, won their last three games and now share third place, tied with Vitilla, a team that, conversely, after three consecutive victories and two defeats, one of them against the team they are currently tied with.
In the game that concluded the first of two rounds, Caciques defeated Combinado Avícola Nacional (CAN) by a 16-3 knockout, with Jorge Luis Merencio earning the win, his third without a loss, and Jorge Gómez lost.
In the midweek game, Jamaiquinos soundly defeated Cárnico 19-6. José Ramón Maure earned the win, while left-hander Raúl Laffita took the loss.
Etecsa, meanwhile, closed out the day with a 13-7 victory over Vitilla. Abel Jones was the winner, while David Bignote suffered the defeat.
Etecsa leads the standings with a 4-1 record, followed by Jamaiquinos (3-1, with one game suspended against CAN, who are winning easily). Caciques and Vitilla are next (both 3-2), CAN is 1-3, and Cárnico is 0-5.
