Guantanamo.- Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán illuminates our day with his warm smile and the greatness of the feat accomplished that immortalize him as the Hero of Yaguajay.

93 years of his birth anniversary, it is impossible to forget the personal charisma that always distinguished him among his companions. The anecdotes remember us that he was a great lover of nature and history, he defended the weakest, he radiated a lot of joy, were his greatest virtues .

Over time he grew to be a responsible man, who from a very young age joined the fight against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista, he was a member of expedition on the Granma yacht, fought in Alegría de Pío, the one who did not give in to the vicissitudes of the Sierra Maestra to travel the island from east to west always trusting in Fidel, in victory.

For Camilo, unity was the true consolidation of the Revolution and he put all his vocation for justice, loyalty and courage at the service of the people to face an act of high treason in Camagüey hours before disappearing at sea in that tragic accident.

For Che: “Camilo was the companion of a hundred battles, Fidel’s loyal man in the difficult Camilo was the companion of a hundred battles, Fidel’s man of trust in the difficult moments of the war and the selfless fighter who always made sacrifice an instrument to temper his character and forge that of the troops, Camilo was Camilo, lord of the vanguard, complete guerrilla who imposed himself through that colorful war he knew how to make».

From the depths of our hearts and 93 years after his birth, from Guantánamo and all of Cuba we dedicate heartfelt verses and songs to him and we remember those words of Fidel when he said: “Men like Camilo Cienfuegos emerged from the people and lived for the people… Camilo lives and will live in the people.”

In a perennial tribute to the Hero, every February we return to his life lessons linked by that feeling of loyalty to the Homeland.
