Guantanamo.- Manuel Osvaldo Espinosa, president of the Chilean Wrestling Federation sent a gratitude letter for Cuba’s help during the Olympic cycle. The message was read and presented by Eduardo Perez Tellez, technical manager of that sports organization.

The modest ceremony was held at the High Performance Athletes Training School (ESFAAR by its Spanish acronym) Cerro Pelado, with the presence of the president of the Cuban Wrestling Federation Martin Torres Peguero, and the director of the center where our champions are trained, Angel Eloy Ramon Garcia.

Besides, coaches of the national, wrestling, Greco-Roman and women’s national teams, and sporting glories.

In statements to the press, Perez Tellez stressed that he is committed to give recognition to all those who in one way or another participated in supporting the preparation of the Chilean wrestlers for the Olympic qualifier held in February in Acapulco and the Olympic Games in Paris.

Torres Peguero commented that there has always been solidarity between both federations and expressed his gratitude for this recognition on behalf of the Cuban sports movement.

Cuban nationalized Chilean Yasmani Acosta, silver medal in Paris in the 130 kg category, became the first Olympic medalist in the history of that sport in the South American nation and contested the gold medal against the only athlete to win gold medals in five straight summer events, also Cuban Mijain Lopez Nunez.

With the Cuban support, Chile also won three bronze medals in wrestling for the first time at the Pan American Games of Santiago 2023, including a woman’s medal.
