Guantanamo.- The inauguration of Community Food Centers began in the town of Cayamo, in the municipality of Caimanera, in the province of Guantanamo, to provide lunch and dinner for people identified as vulnerable.
In the four homes set up as food centers, the beginning of the service was presided over by Betsy Díaz Velázquez, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Domestic Trade; Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Communist Party in Guantánamo Province; and Vice Governor Carlos Raúl Martínez Turro, who agreed to extend the project to most communities where there are people in these needs.
Likewise, the initiative provides employment opportunities for women who decided to participate in the project, preparing food using resources from their plots and organic gardens. They also use vegetables and other food from agricultural and production companies in the districts.
The Community Food Centers of Cayamo, in Caimanera, Uveral in Niceto Pérez, Sabaneta, and Gran Tierra, in El Salvador, opened their doors in honor of the 99th birthday of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.
In the coming hours, other buildings in the remaining territories of the Cuban Upper East will join the project, which initially includes 20 Community Food Centers.
The goal is to guarantee services to several communities in the ten municipalities of Guantanamo, which already stand out in the country for serving people in vulnerable situations.
